Recap of the Blockchain and Cybersecurity Webinar

A webinar on blockchain and cybersecurity was held, featuring presenters Ahmed Afif Monrat (Postdoctoral Researcher, Cybersecurity, LTU) and Israel Ehile Ehile (Doctoral Student, Cybersecurity, LTU). The session provided insights into current cybersecurity threats, the role of blockchain technology in mitigating these risks, and a practical demonstration of its applications.

The webinar began with real-world examples of cyber-attacks that had occurred in Sweden. These cases highlighted the growing threats in the digital landscape and set the stage for the subsequent discussions.

Following the attack examples, the presenters introduced a need analysis chart, which categorized cybersecurity requirements into three sections: Need Category, Challenges Identified, and Required Solutions. One of the key focus areas was Access Control & Authentication. The challenges identified in this category included weak passwords and risks associated with unauthorized access. The recommended solution was an AI-blockchain-based decentralized identity and verification system, which could enhance security and reduce vulnerabilities.

The discussion then shifted to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), where the presenters examined the cybersecurity problems faced by these businesses, the potential blockchain-based solutions, and the overall impact of implementing such technology.

Subsequently, the presenters elaborated on the benefits of using blockchain technology for cybersecurity. They also addressed the challenges associated with its adoption, such as scalability, regulatory concerns, and integration complexities. Additionally, ongoing research activities related to blockchain and cybersecurity were presented, offering insights into the latest developments in the field.

Later in the session, Israel Ehile Ehile introduced a demo application. The demonstration began with an overview of the application, followed by an explanation of its architecture. Finally, Israel Ehile Ehile showcased a live demonstration, illustrating how blockchain technology was integrated into the system. The webinar concluded with an engaging discussion between the presenters and the audience, both online and in person, where attendees enjoyed coffee and traditional Finnish pulla.

Overall, the webinar provided valuable knowledge on blockchain technology’s role in cybersecurity and offered practical insights through a live demonstration. The session was informative and highlighted the importance of leveraging blockchain for secure and decentralized identity verification systems.
