At this year’s Forskarveckan at Luleå University of Technology (LTU), Anton and Simon took part by sharing their work in information security. They gave a lecture on information and cybersecurity for the visiting 9th graders, where they explained some basic concepts about digital threats, protection, and why security is essential for both organizations and society.
They also arranged a practical exercise for visiting ninth-grade students. In this activity, the students tried out the role of hackers in a simplified scenario where they “attacked” the city of Luleå. The aim was to demonstrate how attacks can be carried out, identify potential weaknesses, and describe the effects that such actions can have. Afterwards, the students discussed possible defenses and how one can act responsibly when dealing with digital systems.
By combining a presentation of their research with an exercise, Anton and Simon were able to provide students with a closer look at what information security means in practice. Their participation helped connect university research with school-level learning and gave the students a chance to reflect on both the risks and the opportunities in today’s digital environment.
